Four-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine

February 24, 2026 news-nouvelles

February 24th marks four years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. What began in 2014 escalated into the largest armed attack on a sovereign European state since the Second World War.

Since February 2022, millions of Ukrainians have been displaced, thousands of civilians have been killed, and critical infrastructure has been systematically targeted. Investigations continue to examine serious violations of international law arising from the conflict.

From the outset of the full-scale invasion, Canada has stood firmly with Ukraine. Our support has included military assistance, humanitarian relief, financial aid, sanctions against Russia, and measures to hold those responsible accountable. Canada remains committed to helping Ukraine defend its sovereignty and restore a just and durable peace.

Canadians across the country continue to show solidarity with Ukraine and with the Ukrainian Canadian community. On this anniversary, we reaffirm our support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its people.
